Mobility as the Key to Employment: An Analysis of Labor Market Integration in Carinthia
The results show that high-quality mobility options are a key factor in promoting sustainable integration into the labor market.
Mobility is a key prerequisite for participation in the labor market. At the same time, structural challenges regarding accessibility, infrastructure, and individual mobility options are evident, particularly in peripheral regions.
The study analyzes the relationship between mobility and the labor market integration of unemployed individuals in Carinthia.
The focus is on accessibility, transportation options, and individual mobility circumstances (e.g., driver’s license and vehicle availability) and their impact on the duration and persistence of unemployment.
Based on extensive AMS data as well as spatial and transportation-related analyses, key causal relationships become apparent: Improved access to jobs and an efficient mobility system have a positive impact on the duration of unemployment.
The study identifies specific recommendations for action – including the expansion of public and flexible mobility options, improved workplace mobility management, and stronger coordination between labor market and transportation policies.
The findings provide a solid foundation for using mobility as a targeted lever for social participation and sustainable labor market integration.
