Bio-based product and process development
We develop innovative bio-based products and processes along regional value chains – from raw material sourcing and technical implementation to the assessment of market and sustainability potential. Drawing on extensive experience from European research and demonstration projects – such as those focused on the use of agricultural residues, the development of new protein-based products, the utilization of organic waste, or the biotechnological processing of by-products – we design holistic solutions for a circular bioeconomy.
Our approach includes the identification of suitable biogenic raw materials, the development of efficient conversion and processing methods, as well as the optimization of process chains from laboratory scale to pilot and demonstration plants. In doing so, we work in an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented manner to realize economically viable, ecologically robust, and technologically scalable applications. Through close collaboration with regional partners, industry stakeholders, and research institutions, we enable the implementation of innovative bioeconomy concepts in real value creation networks.
Our expertise in the field of bio-based product and process development includes:
-
Identification and evaluation of bio-based raw materials from agriculture, food production, and organic waste streams.
-
Development of innovative conversion and processing methods for the efficient use of biomass
-
Design and optimization of biotechnological, chemical, and thermal processes, from the laboratory scale through to pilot and demonstration plants.
-
Developing sustainable product solutions – from bio-based materials and alternative feed ingredients to high-value materials derived from by-products.
-
Technological and economic evaluation of process chains, including feasibility studies, scaling strategies, and potential analyses.
- Development of integrated value-creation concepts in collaboration with regional partners, industry, and research institutions.
Technical-Economic Assessments (TEA)
We evaluate innovative bio-based technologies and value chains using robust technical and economic analyses. Based on real-world process data – such as data on the use of biomass resources, the conversion of waste materials into high-value products, or the development of new biotechnological processes – we create reliable TEA models that integrate technological performance, economic viability, and environmental impacts.
Our analyses include the depiction of complete process chains, calculations of investment and operating costs, material and energy balances, scaling estimates, as well as sensitivity and risk assessments. This allows us to identify the key levers for optimization, technology maturity, and market viability. By combining technical metrics, economic scenarios, and sustainability indicators, we support partners from research, business, and public institutions in strategic decisions and enable a realistic assessment of the innovation and transformation potential of bio-based technologies.
Market Launch and Technology Transfer for Bio-based Innovations
We support companies, research partners, and regional actors in successfully transferring bio-based technologies and products from development to application and the market. Building on our experience from European R&D projects, we accompany the entire transfer process – from validating technical performance to assessing economic viability to strategic positioning in the market.
In this way, we lay the groundwork for research findings to realize their full potential, for new value chains to emerge, and for sustainable bioeconomy innovations to find their way into real-world applications.
Energy Simulation and Plant Evaluation
Energy simulation and system evaluation are used for the systematic analysis, optimization, and assessment of technical systems. This approach is based on a comprehensive consideration of all technical, environmental, and economic factors.
Our services include the comprehensive analysis, optimization, and evaluation of buildings and technical systems with regard to energy efficiency, operating costs, greenhouse gas emissions, comfort, and sustainability. Starting with project definition and site surveys, we conduct due diligence reviews and design analyses, prepare feasibility studies and conceptual energy plans, and develop integrated solutions that combine passive and active measures.
LCA & Materials Consulting for Integrated Solutions
We conduct life cycle assessments (LCA) and material-based analyses for bio-based products, processes, and value chains. Using project-specific data from our R&D activities, we evaluate environmental impacts, compare technological options, and identify relevant sustainability metrics.
Our analyses support the further development of bio-based materials and processes, the evaluation of alternatives, and the integration of new solutions into existing systems. By combining LCA, material assessment, and technological project experience, we create a robust basis for decision-making regarding sustainable, practical, and integrated bioeconomy solutions.

Construction Process Analysis (Execution)
The analysis of construction processes focuses on the execution phase and examines workflows, sequencing, material flows, and coordination of interfaces directly on construction sites. The goal is to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and workflow disruptions that lead to delays or additional costs.
Scope of Services:
- On-site observation and documentation of work processes (cycle times, machine utilization, personnel)
- Analysis of logistics routes, warehousing, and material supply
- Identification of interface conflicts between trades
- Estimating time requirements and comparing them with planned values
- Identification of opportunities for optimization in construction organization and management
Results: A detailed process report including key performance indicators (e.g., productivity per square meter per day), a bottleneck analysis, and specific design recommendations.
Construction Process Analysis from a Safety Perspective - Safety and Accident Prevention Analysis
We incorporate safety considerations into all construction process analyses. In doing so, we systematically identify hazards, potential risks, and causes of accidents.
Scope of Services:
- Risk assessment at critical process points (working height, use of machinery, material handling)
- Analysis of safety measures and their actual implementation
- Identification of safety-critical interfaces (change of trades, shift handoffs)
- Verification of compliance with legal requirements (Construction Work Ordinance, Occupational Safety and Health Act)
- Documentation of near-miss incidents and their causes
Results: Safety report with a list of measures for accident prevention, integrated into the overall process report.
Analysis of Construction Site Overhead Costs
The analysis of construction site overhead costs examines the actual cost structures and their allocation within the current construction project. The focus is on a factual breakdown of the existing circumstances, without evaluation or optimization recommendations.
Scope of Services:
- Recording of actual construction site costs (site facilities, management staff, temporary buildings, infrastructure, safety measures)
- Review of the allocation logic (time-based vs. performance-based, flat-rate vs. documented)
- Analysis of progress throughout the project (actual vs. planned, progress curve)
- Documentation of deviating project conditions (construction schedule extensions, additional requirements)
- Transparency regarding cost categories and their amounts in relation to the volume of construction work
Results: An unbiased report on the current status, including a detailed breakdown of costs and an allocation structure, to serve as the basis for internal and external coordination.
Life Cycle Cost Analysis & Climate Neutrality Assessment
We conduct comprehensive life-cycle cost (LCC) analyses that account for a building’s investment, operating, energy, and demolition costs over its entire service life of 50-100 years. In parallel, we conduct a climate neutrality assessment that systematically tracks CO₂ emissions (including embodied emissions from material production), primary energy consumption, and resource use, and compares these metrics against regulatory targets (e.g., EU taxonomy, national climate neutrality requirements).
Scope of Services:
- Erstellung projektindividueller LCC-Modelle mit dynamischer Berücksichtigung von Energiepreisentwicklungen, Instandhaltungszyklen und Nutzungsänderungen
- Carbon footprint (cradle-to-grave) in accordance with EN 15978, ÖNORM EN 15804+ A2
- Scenario analyses (e.g., different insulation options, heating systems, service lives)
- Identification of cost-effective measures for reducing emissions (cost per ton of CO₂ avoided)
- Incorporation into bidding documents and investment decisions
Results: A transparent basis for decision-making that simultaneously optimizes cost-effectiveness and climate goals.
